Nicknames: Violet, Vi, Ray-Ray Personality Traits: Rain, like her mate Thatcher, is a sweet bunny, who seems to enjoy the attention of people and is fairly easy to pick up and handle. She is a beautiful silvery grey color, which is why we changed her name from Violet to Rain, although we still think Violet is a good name. Rain was born in 2003 and weighs about 4 1/2 pounds. She is a Netherland Dwarf mix, and has the tiniest little ears. It feels good to see her and Thatcher grooming and snuggling. Shortly after Rain moved in with Thatcher, they had a tremendous falling out, with horrible fighting... they would roll around on the floor biting and kicking each other. They were separated and put into side by side pens, where they could see each other, but not fight. After a while, they went back up to the local HRS together, where the manager first tried other bunnies with Thatcher, who wasn't interested at all. So the manager successfully re-bonded Thatcher and Rain. We were all so happy about this, because we love Rain and didn't want her to leave! Since they came home for the second time, all has been well. I dismantled the bunny condos and replaced them with open x-pens to try to make the environment different. I don't know if that has helped, but it is sure easier for clean-up. The only weird thing is that Violet likes to climb the walls of the pen and stand with her head poking over the top, checking out the other bunnies. When they are out for play-time, she runs around and jumps into the air with delight. She has leanred the cue "Go Home," and understands the word "Treat."
Rain replaced Thatcher's former buddy, Willow, who kept biting me. Ten months with us was not long enough for Willow to warm up to me, so she went back to the Colorado House Rabbit Society, to find a different mate and family. She didn't bite anyone else, but really disliked me. |
