Owen's Pro Wrestling Moniker: The Lug Nut

Personality Traits: Owen is a Big Friendly White Bunny (BFWB). He has lovely pink eyes and enjoys being petted. In fact, we believe that Owen would happily sit being petted until our arms become too tired to lift. His idea of hearty exercise seems to be cocking his head to one side to permit a human better access to scratch behind his ears. Oddly enough, he sometimes nips. We think this is his signal that he's had enough petting. Huh. The other bunnies just hop away, but I guess Owen's kind of a bossy sort... more proof that having rabbits is not for the faint of heart.

The Colorado House Rabbit Society believes that Owen was born in 1999. He was found as a stray, and has lived at the Colorado HRS shelter since 2001.

We adopted adopted Owen in February 2005, along with his lovely wife, Gazelle.

Owen is neutered and weighs nearly 8 lbs. If you've got the time and the software, you can view two Quicktime videos of Owen engaged in two of his favorite activites: playing tug of war with sticks and eating lots of hay.

Owen also enjoys playing "Follow the Leader" with Gazelle. She plays along for while, and then she will find a nice hiding place. Owen then happily switches to "Hide and Seek." He's just a doll, full of affection for Gazelle and for everyone in our family. He's our oldest bunny, and he doesn't jump and sprint around as much as the younger long-ears... but he seems happy and healthy.

Today he really gave me a shock. I was bringing Owen and Gazelle their breakfast bowl of pellets, when Owen suddenly jumped right out of his pen and into my arms. I managed to catch him, although I did drop the breakfast. I guess he was super hungry this morning, because this isn't his usual behavior at all!

It makes me wonder why he bothers to stay in the pen at all, when he so clearly has the ability to clear the wall without much effort.
