"When you match wits with a rabbit, you cannot win. If the rabbit bests you, you're a fool. If you best the rabbit, you're a fool who's bested a rabbit."
Bob Tarte, Enslaved By Ducks, Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2003.

Welcome to Fuzzy Termites... the site devoted to singing the praises of our house rabbits - P.G., Reese, Owen, Gazelle, Thatcher, and Rain.

Our rabbits are bonded into pairs. Each pair is spayed/neutered, so we won't have any little surprises. You can read all about them in the Bunny Bios section of this site. We house our rabbits in pens and condos in a room of their own, which is right off of the family room. We have many photos and drawings of the rabbits on this site.

People who find out we have rabbits often ask us what it is like to have a rabbit as a pet. Lots of work, for one thing! They need a lot of play time outside of their cage or pen (our pairs each get a couple of hours out each day) and they need plenty of activities to keep them busy. It's been extremely rewarding emotionally. They are all adorable to look at, and most of them enjoy petting (but NOT being picked up). They are a constant mystery waiting to be solved.

They aren't like a dog, they aren't like a cat. If I had to compare them to other animals, I'd say it's a bit like having a beaver crossed with a kangaroo. When a friend once asked my husband what type of animal the rabbits reminded him of, he replied, "Giant, fuzzy termites." Hence the name of our web site.

I've come to realize that every rabbit has its own unique personality.... just like any other type of pet animal.

For virtually all the information you could need about rabbit diet, toys, behavior (including chewing), adopting a rabbit, litterbox training, choosing a vet, and many other fine rabbit topics, we suggest visiting the House Rabbit Society web site.
